About workshops

Workshops will be held the first week of the festival from 23 to 28 of July.

Headquarters of the workshops is Club LokalPatriot in the heart of Novo mesto. Most of the scheduled program such as lectures, mentor hours (consulting), computer work etc. is taking place there.

But attending our workshops is far from traditional schools, since our classrooms are often streets, local cafés, parks and countryside of Novo mesto. Workshops are set up at different levels, so mentors work with students with various backgrounds. In the week of workshops, students work on a project within a chosen theme. Our goal at the end of workshops is that students will gain new knowledge, information and above all enthusiasm for photographing after Fotopub.

Fotopub attracts very different students with various interests and reasons why they want to enrich their knowledge in photography, so we have prepared a program at 4 levels of foreknowledge. The work at all workshops is closely guided by a chosen mentor. All students will also choose which lectures they want to attend (considering the topic and level of difficulty). Students meet with their mentor upon individual arrangement. Workshops will be held the first week of the festival from 23 to 28 of July.

ADVANCED WORKSHOP
At this level students are expected to be competent in the basic photography techniques and to show their own initiative. Students are also expected to bring their photographs for review with the chosen mentor. We will offer a list of different projects students can work on or consider your suggestions so you are able to photograph what interests you and in the way that suits you. Students will meet with mentors on individual sessions upon previous arrangement. This workshop is also suitable for students familiar with the basics of photography who are looking to improve their technical and esthetical photographic knowledge. Mentor of advanced class are Piotr Malecki (PL), Meta Krese (SLO) and Alfredo D'Amato (I).

BEGINNER WORKSHOP
This workshop is intended for absolute beginners, which have just entered the world of photography. Here you will get acquainted with your camera and the technical basics of photography (cover, shutter, objective, depth sharpness). There are no requirements of foreknowledge at this level but students must have SLR cameras, compact cameras are not suited for Fotopub. Mentor of beginner class is Uroš Abram (SLO).

MULTIMEDIA WORKSHOP
The aim of the workshop is to produce a single person based narrative multimedia piece duration of 3 min in one week and through this exercise cover some of the basics of theory and practice of multimedia production. The workshop is suited for maximum 12 people, who will be working alone or in pairs. There will be computers available, but you can also bring your own. The mentors of multimedia workshop is Anna Stevens (UK).

WET PLATE COLLODION WORKSHOP
Wet Plate Collodion is a pioneer photographical technique invented in 1851. We will be making Wet Plate Collodion ambrotypes, tintypes and collodion glass negatives. On the second half of the workshop we will be making also salt print and cyanotype. On the end we'll learn how to print a digital file on genuine salt print or cyanotype. For participation to the workshop no previous knowledge is needed. Workshop will be conducted under mentorship of Miša Keskenović (RS), a true master in photography techniques of 19th Century and Borut Peterlin (SLO) as his assistant. The workshop will be held for four days, from 25 till 28 of July. Since the implementation of the wet plate collodion worksho requires significant material costs, we decided to keep the competitive price but to change the duration of workshop into four days. This is more than enough time to learn independently how to use this photographic process. Panel, which you make in this work shop, will be yours to keep. With the proper keeping even your grandchildren will be amazed by your photos from way back in 2012!

LECTURES
Lectures are scheduled every day from 10 – 11am and will be held simultaneously at two different levels of difficulty. Students will choose which lecture they want to attend. Some of the lectures will be repeated so students will be able to attend most of all the lectures given throughout the week. In addition to theoretical lectures we will also offer practical application of the theory (ex. use of studio lights, flash, portrait...) and a chance to test professional equipment. All lectures are in english language.
